Today, a girl between the ages of 1 and 18 will be sold into the sex trafficking industry.
According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), there are more than 21 million victims of human trafficking—a practice widely considered to be akin to “modern-day” slavery where 22% of these victims will be exploited for sexual purposes.
For one Scorpion employee, Marissa Kellogg—Director of Learning and Development at Scorpion—this reality was unacceptable.
Which is why when she was named Scorpion’s August Employee of the Month and given the opportunity to donate to a charity of her choice on Scorpion’s dime, she chose the Agape International Mission (AIM).
“Agape International Mission is a non-profit I was able to work with a few years ago. They focus on human trafficking in South East Asia, and I’ve seen firsthand the impact they’ve been able to have on women and children rescued from the sex trade.”
The Agape International Mission (AIM) was founded in 2005 by husband and wife, Don and Bridget Brewster. After hearing about the sex trafficking industry in Cambodia, they sold their home and moved to the country with the goal of working to stop the cycle of sex trafficking and exploitation in the country.
Since the organization was founded, AIM has rescued over 1,250 survivors, has assisted with getting more than 350 traffickers arrested, and has saved young children and women from nine different countries. Today, AIM continues to make a difference by working to prevent human trafficking, rescue survivors, return them to their families, and reintegrate them into society.
